Job Details

Involve clients in recreational, leisure, and community activities and provide training to engage clients in recreational and leisure activities. 

 

Requirements

  • 40 hours per week, some evenings and weekends. 
  • Work with supervisor to plan and organize recreational, leisure, and community activities for clients.
  • Plan and conduct monthly, weekend, and holiday recreational schedules and special events/outing schedules. Receive approval from an immediate supervisor prior to posting in assigned locations, including clients’ Program and On-Call books.
  • Work with supervisor to implement special client events such as Challenge Days and/or Special Olympics.
  • Provide staff and clients with guidelines and materials to participate in recreational activities, Challenge Days, Special Olympics, and/or other special events.
  • Work with all departments inside the organization and other organizations to schedule and coordinate special programs, events, and activities for clients.
  • Maintain accurate records of client recreational participation.
  • Assist clients in the swimming pool.
  • Complete written annual client recreation evaluations for designated clients and implement programs as recommended by the Interdisciplinary Team (ID).
  • Serve as an advocate for client rights.
  • Maintain flexibility of schedules to provide adequate coverage.
  • Assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the organization by performing all duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education, in-services, and personal growth experiences.
  • Protect the privacy of clients and staff by maintaining the confidentiality of records and personal information and following all policies and procedures under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License, or must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in recreation services, activities, or programs preferred.
  • Must have sincere respect for and desire to work with persons with disabilities.

  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks.
  • Clear tuberculosis screening.
  • Ability to pass and maintain required training such as CPR/First Aid, Dependent Adult/Child Abuse, and Behavior Management Program, or other training as assigned per specific job duties.

Must be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs or activities. Depending on the needs of the individuals, the work can be physically demanding, including transferring or supporting people with mobility needs, lifting or moving items over 50 pounds, and walking or standing for extended periods of time. Regularly required to operate vehicles and equipment. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually mild to moderate but can be loud when operating certain equipment.
